| 9:30 A.M. | PRIVATE COLLECTION This Highland Park home was designed by Antoine Predock. "It is an exuberant and pleasurable place, managing to be both impeccably handsome and jazzed to the max," so says Architectural Digest, (April, 1994). The owners of the Highland Park home organized an architectural competition, under the direction of Lawrence Speck, dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, to select the right architect for the building of their home. Antoine Predock, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico was chosen from an impressive list. The shell of the house, about 10,000 sq. ft. in area, consists of a composite of steel, limestone, and granite. The contemporary art collection includes work by Tony Cragg, Robert Wilson, Linda Ridgway, James Surls, tables by Donald Judd, an early modern sofa by Charles James (acquired from Christophe de Menil), and a growing collection that will be fascinating to discover. The owners have recently renovated a water power station next door to their home as a private exhibition and entertaining space, creating a unique indoor/outdoor art environment. This collection is pledged to the Dallas Museum of Art. |
